NARRATIVE: Catalina Vásquez, a fourth-generation coffee producer, helps manage and market harvests from her family's three coffee farms in Antioquia. Through her family's decades of growing experience and her forward thinking, entrepreneurial eye, Catalina and her family have invested in other farmers throughout the country to create a modern Colombian coffee brand called Cafelumbus. By sourcing coffee from farmer friends in other regions of Colombia Cafelumbus ensures a constant supply throughout the whole year. 25 years ago Heiner Lazo and his wife Johanna purchased Finca El Rubí. The farm was initially growing mostly Caturra and Castillo. The Lazo family converted the plants to Papayo, Pink Bourbon, and SL28. El Rubí started planting Pink Bourbon 3 years ago and now have 7,300 trees of this variety. This washed Pink Bourbon has notes of strawberry, cherry, grapefruit, orange. The Lazo family works with a group called Agacafe to mix their fertilizers which are a combination of organic material and phosphoric rocks and dolomites (a type of limestone that provides valuable nutrients to plants and helps change the pH of the soil) to restore their soil and nurture their plants.
