Our Tea Partner - Hugo Tea Company

Posted by on

With our first brick and mortar cafe location opening in just over a week, we thought we would write a series of posts highlighting inspiring craftspeople we have chosen to begin a relationship with.  We believe business is human and is best conducted through trust and transparency.  Every supplemental product we stock in our retail location will be sourced from someone we know and trust and from a company who shares the same values as VDCC.

So, with that, we introduce our tea partner - Hugo Tea Company!

Can I be brutally honest for a second?  Going into the search for a tea partner I was really not very excited.  It seemed more like a chore than a joy because quite frankly, I didn't care much about tea before chatting with Tyler, their founder.  However, as we began talking I realized he had the same level of passion for tea as I do for coffee.  I tasted their tea against some other brands and was blown away by the complexity and depth of flavor.  So.. that's when I got really excited about serving the best tea I could!

Furthermore, Hugo Tea Company is an incredibly approachable and down to earth company that gently teaches you how to best brew tea.  They give you some options and explain the many ways to brew and the pros and cons of each method.  I really loved this aspect of their program, as I had no idea where to even start with tea.  Not only that, but the personalized service Tyler provided, answering emails at all hours, helped me connect with him on a level only 2 passionate small business owners can.

What I eventually realized is that Hugo Tea is for the tea world where I want Velodrome Coffee to be for the coffee world in like 10 years... a small and successful, progressive company that is built on a solid set of principles.

A little more about Hugo Tea...

"WE ARE TEA DRINKERS. THAT'S WHY WE DO THIS. HUGO TEA WAS FOUNDED ON THE STRAIGHT-FORWARD BELIEFS THAT PEOPLE WANT TO KNOW WHERE THEIR TEA COMES FROM AND THAT THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE IF MORE PEOPLE DRANK MORE TEA.

WE TRAVEL THOUSANDS OF MILES EACH YEAR AND BUILD LASTING RELATIONSHIPS WITH FARMERS, PURSUING THE GREATEST TEAS FROM THE CLEANEST TEA GARDENS IN THE WORLD. LIKE YOU, WE DRINK OUR TEA EVERYDAY SO WE WOULDN'T HAVE IT ANY OTHER WAY."

So when we open on the 29th, I look forward to meeting people who aren't coffee drinkers and I will be just as excited and proud to serve you Hugo Tea as I would to serve you my coffee.

That's what relational business is all about!
