TEN SPEED / COMPLEX - Ethiopia - Tsegaye Maka
NARRATIVE: This coffee comes to us through Keffa Coffee - one of the most trusted and high quality importers of Ethiopian Coffees. Keffa Coffee was founded in 2006 by owner Samuel Demiss - Samuel was born and raised in Ethiopia. His father was a coffee professional and taught Samuel about the industry at a young age. Samuel has competed in the United States Coffee Cup Tasters Championship and is a Licensed Q-Grader and an Assistant Q-Instructor. We’re extremely excited about this coffee because almost all coffee grown in Ethiopia is sold through the ECX - a government regulated commodity exchange. This is because many farmers in Ethiopia tend to very small portions of land and mostly harvest wild growing coffee cherries. However, through this conglomeration of crops sold through the ECX, all coffee transparency is lost. Keffa Coffee has developed relationships with more large scale industrial operations in area of Ethiopia. We’re proud to have our first ever Ethiopian coffee from Tsegaye Maka. Tsegaye has been working with coffee since he was six years old - his understanding of agronomy and prime location in the heart of the renowned Yirgacheffe growing region mean his coffee is truly special. Proper harvesting, processing, and sorting make for a noticeably consistent cup for what can normally be quite varied when coffee is purchased through the ECX. All said, this single farm coffee from Tsegaye Maka made possible by Keffa Coffee Imports is a coffee to celebrate and appreciate for not only its quality but also the complexity of getting a traceable coffee out from the region it originated from.
